Andy Murray left shocked by what has happened since he retired from tennis that he never expected

Andy Murray has officially retired from tennis, and this time there is unlikely to be any triumphant comebacks.
Instead, the 37-year-old has already settled down into a number of activities that he would have never been able to do whilst on the tour, namely his latest hobby, golf.
A natural progression after two decades of hitting a different ball with a very different stick, retirement looks good on him. And, after such a gruelling career, he has more than earned it.

However, he has been left somewhat stunned by one thing that’s happened since calling time on his playing days that he never thought would happen.
Andy Murray makes surprised retirement claim
Speaking after his recent appearance at the Celebrity Pro-Am at the BMW PGA Championship, the Scotsman, who has left a huge void in British tennis since his retirement, has detailed how life has been post-retirement
And, whilst he has been enjoying things, one particular part of it all has left him shocked, stating that he had never expected it to occur so soon.

He claimed: ‘I haven’t been to the gym for five weeks. I said to my wife, I was like, Look, I’m going to make sure when I stop, I’m going to make sure I stay in good shape.
‘And she said, Oh, if you’re just going to go and play golf, I don’t want that. I was — No, no, I’ll get myself in the gym, make sure I stay in shape.
‘I went to the gym three of the first four days after I stopped, worked really hard, and then went up to Scotland for a couple of days for a holiday, and haven’t been back since. It’s been five weeks I’ve not been in the gym, longest ever for me probably. I don’t know if it’s like appetite, if I’m not eating as much, but we obviously have like loads of the sport drinks have got lot of calories in them, and I only really drink water and coffee now.

‘So I don’t know, I think just less calories and probably loss of muscle. I’ve lost about 11, 12 pounds. It’s a lot. I was expecting the opposite to happen. It’s about five kilos, yeah.’
Given Murray admitted he found the last few years of his career really difficult, it’s glad to see him enjoy some downtime without the pressures of keeping fit and training daily.
In the very first Grand Slam since Andy Murray‘s retirement, it’s fair to say that Jack Draper stepped up to fill that aforementioned void left within British tennis.
In the same tournament where he burst onto the scene in 2012, claiming the first of three major titles he would eventually win, the 22-year-old came so close to mimicking that feat by soaring into the semi-finals against all the odds.
