Iga Swiatek shares ‘disgusting’ bathroom break secret that was key to her US Open semi-final victory

Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek, who currently ranked at number one in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association, needed a bathroom break during her US Open semi-final comeback win against sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka.
Having lost the first set, Swiatek took a break from the game to use the bathroom, and returned with a renewed vigour to close out the game 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, winning the third and final set after being 2-4 down.
Afterwards, Swiatek shared a “disgusting” detail about how that bathroom break helped her.
“It’s what I did [during the bathroom break], I kind of needed to go,” she joked after the match.
“For sure I felt lighter. Sorry, that’s disgusting.”

Swiatek also explained how she now uses such pauses from the match to refocus and think about the contest.
“I tried to use that time to really try to think about what to change and do it in a good way,” Swiatek said, referring to her bathroom break.
“I remember earlier when I was younger, all I did in the bathroom between sets when I was losing was cry.
“This time I can actually think about what to change and actually problem solve. I’m pretty glad I did that, because I got a new idea for the second set.”
Swiatek, a two-time French Open champ, will face fifth seed Ons Jabeur in the women’s final of the 2022 US Open on Saturday.
