Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney become poster boys for owners that ‘really care’ – with Wrexham star revealing what Hollywood stars are like to work for

Hollywood superstars completed a takeover at SToK Racecourse in 2021. They arrived in North Wales as football novices, but have invested emotionally and financially in a surprise sporting project. Their efforts have been rewarded with back-to-back promotions and a place in League One.
The ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series has become a hit around the world, making household names of EFL players. Those in Phil Parkinson’s squad have enjoyed two all-expenses-paid parties in Las Vegas and a couple of pre-season tours in North America.

Reynolds and McElhenney have made all of that possible, while also taking an interest in the personal lives of those working under them. O’Connell has said of what it is like to play for famous chairmen: “Brilliant, he’s [Reynolds] just a normal person, very personable and cares a lot about all of us. I think even with things off the pitch he’s great. He will get in touch after games and send messages. He’s just great, I think that he and Rob have been incredible not just for the club and town but the whole league, in opening people’s eyes to what can be done when you have owners who really care and want to work and put into a club. They’re the same behind the scenes, just normal people and they’re brilliant.”

Parkinson has seen more funds made available in the transfer market this summer, allowing Wrexham to add, with there the promise of more business to come as the Red Dragons seek to ensure that they remain fiercely competitive in the third tier of English football.
