Serena Williams Gushes Over Best Friend Meghan Markle’s Poised Social Media Comeback With a Heartfelt Reaction

The Duchess of Sussex started her New Year with her first Instagram account since 2025. Under her username @meghan, the wife of Prince Harry shared a video of herself on a beach. She can be seen donning a white attire, and running towards the shore to draw “2025” with her fingers in the sand – her unique way of heralding the new year. Her account – with a fan following of 569K – also features one of her biggest admirers – the tennis great, the younger Williams sister.
The 43-year-old took to her Instagram story to reshare the video by Markle. She shared a wholesome reaction to the same and captioned it, “🥰,” highlighting how strong and adorable is their friendship. Interestingly, Markle has been teasing a social media comeback for quite some time now and hence, the reactions are quite understandable.
In an interview in 2022, Markle, who stopped using her original Sussex Royal account in 2020 after quitting as a senior royal, revealed that she might soon return to Instagram. Talking to The Cut, she said, “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back … on Instagram.”
Serena Williams and Meghan Markle first met at the Super Bowl in 2010 and became close friends after reconnecting in 2014 at another Super Bowl. The former actress also opened up about her bond with Williams and wrote about the same in her popular blog, The Tig, in 2014. Expressing her admiration for Williams’ athletic prowess, Markle shared that watched her matches with bated breath.
“So began our friendship,” she stated. “She quickly became a confidante I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down-to-earth chick I was able to grab lunch with just a couple weeks ago in Toronto,” Markle further added. But it is not just Markle who has expressed joy over her bond with Serena, as the former tennis star has also reciprocated similar sentiments.

Williams said, “Meghan is a great person and I think the epitome of strength, the epitome of confidence, the epitome of just selflessness, and the epitome of everything is just her and everything that she’s gone through.” Continuing further, she lauded her resilience and explained how difficult it is for an individual to remain poised in the face of difficulties.
“And I know it’s not easy, and you can see from the interview that it wasn’t easy. But she had so much poise and she still had so much class,” she added. Now, as Meghan makes her return to the digital stage, it’s clear she finds one of her biggest cheerleaders in Serena.
