Why ‘unique club’ built by Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney makes transfer business tricky – with Wrexham still in the market for ‘one or two’ signings

Phil Parkinson has explained why transfer business can be tricky for Wrexham, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney building a “unique club”.

The presence of two Hollywood superstars in North Wales is of obvious appeal to potential new recruits. The Red Dragons are, however, aware of the need to get players on board that want to join that project for the right sporting reasons – rather than enhancing their profile on a popular documentary series.

Wrexham have completed shrewd business across recent windows, with that theme continuing in 2024. Arthur Okonkwo has returned to the club on a permanent basis after leaving Arsenal as a free agent, Premier League experience has been acquired in ex-Leicester defender Lewis Brunt, while George Dobson knows all about life in the EFL.

Parkinson is hoping for more movement before the next deadline, telling The Leader of efforts to get the right additions for famous co-owners: “We are working on one or two things. There is still work to be done in the squad before the season starts, everybody knows that, but I am very pleased with the lads we have brought in so far.

They are really strong additions to what we have got and as ever, we are trying to select the players which we feel are right for this group and the club. That is a careful selection process because this is quite a unique club to be at for many reasons and I want to make sure that the ones who come in with us are going to integrate quickly with the group but also add something.”

Wrexham are preparing to head off on another pre-season tour of North America, which will take them to the west coast of the United States and Canada. Paul Mullin will play no part in that trip after undergoing surgery, but fresh faces are being eased into the fold alongside established promotion-winning stars.
